Interview for the project

Fascism-XXI at your door

October 1, 2012.

A spectre is haunting Europe and the world - the spectre of a new, previously unknown global Fascism. What are the root causes and preconditions for the resurgence of Fascism/Nazism in Europe and the West in general?

Video part 1

The ideology of fascism could be used as a very effective tool to subdue and mobilize the countries and nations and make them act in the interests of the West. The fascism which we know from history was brought up by our allies in the Triple Entente to mobilize people in the time of crisis for the upcoming war.

For some countries, the living conditions were brought to an unacceptable level and then the dictatorship and fascist ideology was offered to the public as a resolution. All such regimes were mobilized and subordinated to our allies in the Triple Entente, dependent on them politically, economically and therefore they worked for the agenda set by the Triple Entente and the West.

After the World War II the foot soldiers were charged for their crimes and suffered the deserved punishment, while the patrons collected all the benefits. The people of defeated countries had to pay off contributions and were effectively resubmitted to their former masters.

In the question we use a term «global fascism». What is the difference comparing to the common fascism we knew before?

Video part 2

There is no difference. Earlier fascism was concentrated in Europe, even though some key figures were across the ocean. Now this ideology is spread over entire world, Europe is no longer unique in this context.

Why did it happen, what are the root causes and why fascism is on the rise now?

Video part 3

Fascism is on the rise because the dominating powers, the Anglo-Saxon world can no longer exist in present conditions. Because the natural resources of the world are limited and the West cannot guarantee increase of consumption for its own people and the rest of the world.

Also, many nations, that used to be the unconditional subordinates of the West, disencumber from such dependency and thus put more limits on resources. All these factors contribute to an upcoming catastrophe. The easiest way to write off all costs is a war and fascism is a sure path to it, just like it was on the eve of the World War II.

Do you believe fascism is capable of resolving all current issues of the West?

Video part 4

Not at all, fascism is just a tool. Ideally, the resolution could be a war, a victorious war and what is the most important, the real beneficiaries should stay away from it. At the current stage we observe the revival and encouragement of fascism, small wars break out in some places, all these events are the links in one chain and they are going to come together.

What factors keep the legitimacy of the authorities in the West? Money cannot resolve all the problems. Do you think that Russia with its communist past might still play the role of an external enemy and could the Western authorities be tempted to play the Russian card in order to keep their legitimacy in an increasingly unstable political environment?

Video part 5

Legitimacy of authorities consists of support of own people and recognition of other countries. Until today it was high living standards that ensured the legitimacy of authorities in the West, but today these standards are rapidly deteriorating. To maintain such living standards the West robs underdeveloped countries, increases governmental and private debts, and supports national economies at the expense of underdeveloped countries.

There is a different approach in Eastern Europe because until the 1990s living standards there were comparable to European ones. Here they need to demonize the socialist past and the Soviet Union which provided such living standards.

With such slogans absorbed from early childhood from all possible information sources, they cultivate an immunity to any possible return to the path of socialism, equal rights and so on. Thus, they achieve a situation where the only alternative is the Western one which automatically ensures legitimacy of every authority preserving the current order.

The Baltic States have its own specific. There is a relatively big Russian diaspora and long border with Russia and Belorussia, there are many Russian people loyal to Russia. Because of all that, the main objective of authorities is to silence Russian people, not to let them express their position and influence the policy.

Russians are declared scapegoats for all issues and the enemies of Latvians. This is a way to keep legitimacy of any authorities, no matter what they do, they are right because they fight evil Russians.

Do you agree, that the West distorts the reality for its own advantage?

Video part 6

Yes, lie is the foundation stone of the West, they cannot live without it. Everything they do is against humanity, against reason. Revealing the truth is mortally dangerous for them.

To keep the current order of things the lies must be brought to a higher extent. Because the economy and society are on the edge of collapse, people seek alternative ways of living. God forbid to turn to the Soviet legacy, the lies must be multiplied to scare people away from that path.

In your opinion, how this lie started and why the West cannot recede from it?

Video part 7

In my opinion the West, as we know it now, originated at the end of the XVIIth century in England, when the National Bank of England was established. We may observe the signs of the similar phenomenon earlier in Venice and Holland. This is what we call a civilization of loan interest.

The Bank of England became a new milestone. This is when printing of unlimited amounts of unbacked money started. The West today is an enormous money printing machine for a very limited circle of people and the rest of the world is forced to use this money.

All governments are under obligation to take loans and support emission of money. The participation of governments legitimates the process; otherwise it does not make any sense, because this is just paper money with no material commodity backing.

The West may face crises, because some nations want to get off the hook and stop wasting national resources for the global money printing machine. Then some countries become «more equal than others»1, the «more equal» ones control the printing machine and always manage to keep a whole skin, while the others are left to deal with issues on their own.

In Europe, we can see a very vivid example of Greece; the nation has a huge debt and cannot live without more debts. Many others are coming to the same point.

Do you agree that revival of fascism must begin with humiliation of Soviet Union?

Video part 8

Yes, of course. We have two irreconcilable parties — the originators of fascism and those who defeated it. To revive fascism, the Soviet Union must be demonized. Nothing else can help to whitewash fascism — a fundamental evil!

If someone who defeated fascism is portrayed as even more evil, people will gradually get used to view fascism as something normal and harmless.

In your opinion, if fascism wins, how will the world evolve? Where are we heading to?

Video part 9

We may end up in the situation with a single center of world power and control. Such a center would create ideology and have full authority over everything else. The world's population would be divided into castes, races and nationalities. Actually, the idea of a nationality may become obsolete, as in such a world nationalities would not make any sense, only castes would remain. It would be a system of slavery with a fixed place for each person and no social mobility upwards, only downwards.

To maintain its level of consumption, the golden billion is going to eliminate three quarters of mankind, or to starve people and force them to work for free. This is the kind of new world order we may get.

It would be a sort of global dictatorship, neo-slave-owning system.

How the issues of neo-Nazism are presented in the Baltic mass media?

Video part 10

The Baltic media ignore this matter completely. Only the Russian media bring such issues to the light, only the Russian audience worries about it. Only the Russians take initiative to discuss and analyze the dangers of neo-Nazism, otherwise nobody would have said this word.

Can you assess the current state and influence of neo-Nazism in the Baltic States? Who supports it, what is the position of the state officials?

Video part 11

In Latvia the neo-Nazism and nationalism manifests itself in hostility towards Russians, not necessarily ethnic Russians, but everyone who speaks Russian and has Russian mentality.

This kind of nationalism is encouraged by the local authorities and supported by the West. The nationalism plants hatred between Latvians and Russians and works very efficiently to keep the current order of things.

If there is no international hatred, it would make no sense to support the current authorities and all political parties represented in parliament.

You mentioned that Latvian nationalism is targeted against people with Russian mentality. Can you explain, what it means?

Video part 12

Broadly speaking, it means inherent sense of justice, collectivism, devotion to Russia and respect towards Russian culture as well as respect to other nations, cultures and mentalities. For some reason the Russian culture and personality is subjected to persecution today. A person with Russian mentality is someone who shares all these values.

And the nationalism fights against this type of outlook and its supporters.

What kind of countermeasures do antifascists of the Baltic countries take?

Video part 13

I know much more about Latvian affairs. As far as Lithuania is concerned, antifascism really works, because there is no confrontation of Lithuanians and Russians. There are not many Russians over there, most of them are assimilated. This is why antifascism does not result in the interethnic confrontation.

A politician and diplomat Algirdas Paletskis works in Lithuania. He stands against distortions of history and defends historical truth; he struggles against dictatorship and against discriminatory laws.

In Latvia the definition of antifascism is very vague. There is an organization called «Antifascist committee».

I don't know much about their political platform. I just heard they organize flash mobs and participate in protest actions. In general, for any Russian and some Latvians the antifascism means adamant opposition against oppression of other ethnic groups.

Russians are friendly to all nations as far as they treat others with respect and do not impose their ruling. As far as antifascism is concerned, we have «Antifascist committee»; also many ordinary people share the ideas of antifascism. Such antifascism manifests itself in opinions and statements of people but unfortunately, it is not established as a powerful national body.

I know even less, what's going on in Estonia. There are anti-fascists over there, but I don't know what they do.

Do you believe that Latvians are still capable of resisting fascism or it's hopeless and the public mind is deadly damaged with fascist ideas? Do you have any examples from real life?

Video part 14

Nationalism was cultivated in 1920s, when Latvia became independent. It was the only way to separate Latvia from Russia. If there was no nationalism, enmity and anticommunism, Latvia would have friendly and mutually beneficial relationship with Russia, Latvia would evolve and prosper.

But it was not a part of the plan generated by the Triple Entente. The Triple Entente created Latvia and defined the framework of ideology, economy, foreign and domestic policy. Within such framework Latvia was allowed to do anything.

During the Soviet period nationalism was gradually growing as well. It became noticeable during 1970s. When Gorbachev came to power nationalism got further boost too and in 1990s we harvested the crop of Gorbachev's national policy.

I'm sure this policy was not a mistake, but a part of a big game under patronage of the West. By now the extent of nationalism became significant and it would take a great deal to close this can of worms.

In addition to that, the mass media is monopolized and censored, many people have no idea what is really going on. But the economy is deteriorating before our eyes, the debts are piling up, many people leave the country and look at the reality from a new angle, the current state of affairs disillusions people which in turn makes the situation not so hopeless.

How the state of Latvia supports the «Forrest Brothers», which included many Nazi elements?

Video part 15

The «Forest Brothers» are considered victims of political repressions as well as Waffen SS legionnaires. They fought against the Soviets during the war and after, it means they fought for independence of Latvia and deserve honors and state benefits. According to the state laws these people receive welfare as victims of political repressions.

But those who suffered fighting against the Nazi occupation are not considered victims and deserve no benefits.

Looks like the officials set the priorities, who is the enemy and who is not?

Video part 16

Yes, exactly. Those who fought on the side of Nazi Germany are heroes; those who fought on the other side have no support from the state of Latvia. They only have retirement payments, but no benefits as war veterans.

What kind of laws equate Communism and Nazism?

Video part 17

First of all, there is a law about political repressions. Fascism, Nazism is declared sort of evil, nevertheless, people who fought in Waffen SS legion are considered heroes.

Such people receive state benefits; the others connected to communism and the Soviet period are humiliated at full extent and have no rights or state support. This is how the law about political repressions segregates people.

Some believe that neo-Nazi organizations grow and mature in the army. Is it right? How can it be explained?

Video part 18

There are some structures closely associated with the army. For example, Jaunsargi — an organization of young soldiers. There is also Zemessardze — formations of local home guard.

The enemy number one for the army is Russia. Anything related to Russia is treated as hostile. For this reason the ideology of those Jaunsargi, Zemessardze and others depicts Russia and Russians as enemies.

It's enough to look at chevron of Zemessardze2 to see their close ties with Waffen SS legions3 and realize what kind of legacy they cherish.

Some say that the state supports international hostility. How is it done?

Video part 19

It is done via education, starting from school, maybe even from kindergarten. History is taught to kids in such a way that it becomes very clear who is an enemy and who is an ally.

It is done via the mass media — the most powerful generator of hostility. Those are the most important parts. Also, there is an ideology supported by the state, there are different actions of the state bodies and actions of non-profit organizations, supported by the state.

In general, the most of non-profit organizations uphold an ideology of enmity towards Russians and Russia.

After all, why the international dissention is instigated? Is the revival of fascism a national project of Latvia?

Video part 20

International hatred is just a tool to preserve the current order — the comprador economy and the comprador administration. The economy and the administration are completely subordinated to the West.

Local administration has no decision making power, they simply run errands for the West. Life of people in the country is miserable — they starve, lose jobs and many have to emigrate. The rulers still prefer to keep it this way and keep fueling hatred rather than let people turn to the Russians.

If hatred goes on, the authorities may ignore the opinion of Russian minority. But if Latvians and Russians come together, the authorities have no chance to last long. Change of policy would be inevitable and such change implies replacement of the ruling elite. The international hatred is the only way to prolong ruling of the current elite.

What are the causes of belligerence towards Belorussia? Tell us about the attempts to interfere with its internal affairs.

Video part 21

Belorussia is an ally of Russia, historical part of Russia and it conducts independent policy. Independent policy is a policy in the best interests of own people, own country and economy. And such policy is absolutely unacceptable for the West, because it sets real example of an alternative order, where people can live with dignity. The other nations may start questioning their elite: «why can't we live like that? »

This is why the West does everything possible to demonize Belorussia and put spokes in their wheels. And here comes Latvia, a spaniel of the West, ready to please masters any way they ask. Thus Latvia becomes in charge of «democratization» of Belorussia. And they start sending journalists there asking provocative and tricky questions.

They defame all aspects of life in Belorussia, teach and encourage the opposition. Also, to prevent Latvia and Belorussia from finding common grounds, the West decided to seize Polotsk-Ventspils4 pipeline process oil.

The pipeline is the most important asset of Latvia. The nation could make profit on oil transit. But without process oil the pipeline cannot function, also any further economic ties and friendly relationship become even less likely.

The same applies to relationship with Russia, because this pipeline goes all the way to Russia. The fact that Latvia agreed to write off this asset on the order of the West proves that it has no sovereignty on its own territory.

It indicates once more, that our policy towards Belorussia is a policy of the USA and EU, we are only reproducers and nothing more. We have to do what we are told to and may not decide anything.

What do they in the European Parliament think about the marches of Nazi veterans and neo-Nazis in Latvia and other Baltic States?

Video part 22

The European Parliament is a kind of Babel tower, dysfunctional government with very feeble apparatus and no real power; members have good salaries but no responsibilities and no decision-making authority.

Just take a look at any specific country as an example. Everywhere the political parties are fragmented and have several factions. All those factions send representatives to the European Parliament. This means thousands of different opinions coming from different countries without any common vision, hardly having any common ground.

This mass of atomized opinions can be smartly manipulated to block “bad” laws. As for the “good” ones, however… you can always group with someone, build a coalition, and manage to get them accepted. In principle, the major law-making is done by the European Commission, while the European Parliament only discusses something secondary without any real meaning. So, the European Parliament doesn't give a damn about marches of legionaries in Latvia.

If the European Commission condemned it as inadmissible, and if our government reacted and changed something, it could lead to further alterations in power structure as a whole and in public opinion. Therefore the European Parliament will never make any veers in that direction, so they will always support our marches.

Are there any problems with neo-Nazism in the USA and any issues similar to the EU countries?

Video part 23

No. There are no problems with neo-Nazism in the USA. It exists there but it does not disturb anyone, and nobody cares. They are left alone because there, in the lion’s den, so to say, nobody is afraid of smaller beasts. They are sort of teddy bears. It is not an evil beast, it’s just “freedom of expression”, so-called “multiculturalism”. If Nazis with swastikas walk around, it's ok, it is just diversity.

So, as long as they do not affect the official policy and do not disturb anyone they can feel free like in a zoo and do anything that does not compromise the government's line. And there, in the USA, almost no one can change that line. It is only if it comes to a mass famine or a disaster that something can happen, but there is army to deal with it.

So Nazis with swastikas can always feel free there, and they will always be protected, and no one will have any problems with them.

What do you and other Baltic intellectuals know about European neo-Nazism?

Video part 24

As far as I know, there are Nazi organizations in Germany, but their activity is channeled to anti-humanism. Any such fascism or Nazism has some patriotic features.

It is important, however, that all those organizations must be controllable by both the government and supra-national powers. Therefore, if an organization becomes too much patriotic it will be persecuted and suppressed in order to redirect it back to the proper functioning.

They must prioritize all those anti-humanistic and racist slogans and banners — then it is okay. But any patriotic inclination and they will fall into disgrace. It is done to prevent Germany to recover its position as a sovereign state. Therefore organizations with any patriotic or national potential should be corrupted and confined within a direction where they will have no future.

This is what happens with Nazi organizations in Europe. If they are needed, they can get away with something for the sake of more important goals. But if they become too independent and capable of ruling the country, loosen supranational control over it, then they are persecuted, dissolved or degraded one way or another.

And what is indigenous people attitude towards neo-Nazism in the Baltic and the Western countries ?

Video part 25

Well, an average Joe does not think about it. For example, in Latvia, it is an important issue for Russians that they are discriminated on the base of nationality, culture and mentality. All of that comes from nationalism and is imposed by nationalism. As for neo-fascism or neo-Nazism, there is apparently no such a phenomenon here, except for the countries where it existed before. Here in Latvia it is of course associated with the legionaries and their history, but I would not say it is neo-Nazism. It is just nationalism aimed against Russians.

While neo-Nazism is rather aimed against ideology, what we have is Latvian nationalism. It is aimed against Russians and everything related to Russia. That is, against their ideology, culture, mentality and everything else.

What is your opinion about “The Soviet Story” film?

Video part 26

This film was produced by the European Union. They found an appropriate script writer, and a director. The film’s message was what they needed—it was aimed against everything Russian and Soviet. It was an informational weapon. This film would’ve remained unnoticed but here in Latvia it was included in school curriculum as a mandatory material.

There were free movie shows, everyone could watch it. Besides, it was repeatedly covered in the media—in interviews, discussions, repeated shows. The film targeted uneducated audience; it employs manipulative techniques and lies embedded into the truth. And most importantly, the meanings were falsified, so a viewer would see it as the truth because he has no alternative source.

Any refutations5 are in Russian, which makes it inaccessible to Latvians. Even if such refutation was available, the primary sources are out of reach for an average Latvian. I guess, the film achieved its goal and justified the money.

What was the reaction of the public to this film?

Video part 27

Because it was continuously promoted and discussed in the media, people watched it. My son watched it and asked questions. Most people, I think, agree with the views suggested and believe it is the truth. I reckon, about three fourth of the population watched this film and probably two thirds of those who watched it agree with the content and believe it is completely true. This is my opinion about this film.

What dangers do you think this poses?

Video part 28

Well, it helps to prolong legitimacy of the existing order in the public mind. For example, people barely make both ends meet, but when they see the film they think: “well, we'd better scrape by and see what happens”. So, for the time being the result is achieved.

Again, the reason is that the Western world is collapsing; it lacks resources to sustain the existing consumption level and standard of living. Some countries started to get out of this stranglehold and pay less “tribute” to the West. Therefore the West is hopeless and getting prepared to the upcoming battle to keep the status quo.

In this regard, this film is one of the general-purpose tools to demonize everything, all the alternatives that could challenge the West. The main alternative is Russia and everything connected with Russia, Russian mentality, history, people and achievements. That is why this film is now translated into 30 languages and urgently and abundantly distributed across Europe and the whole world, in fact.

The idea is to find a way to somehow prevent people from searching for an alternative, from looking around and into history searching for an alternative there, to scare them away from Russia as the alternative. It is the purpose of this film.

Recently, Hitler is often compared with Stalin. To be more specific, they compare Stalin to Hitler and blame him for the “Holodomor” (famine extermination) as a deliberate genocide of Ukrainian people. Could you comment on this, please?

Video part 29

That “Holodomor” (again, the name was invented upon the West’s advice) is related to the famine of 1932-1933. First of all, the famine happened because of a strong drought one year, and the next year there was a large flood and heavy rains. This was one thing. Another thing was that Russia had put the basis for a great industrialization—plants, hydroelectric power stations, various infrastructure facilities. To support them, Russia needed equipment and some raw materials, and most important - the technologies.

All that was acquired in exchange for gold and grain. So, in 1931 (1931-1932) the West decided they would not accept gold anymore but would only accept grain. In the Treasury, in the reserves there was gold but Russia could not use it because the West refused to accept it. Thus, Russia had to pay in grain. This was the fundamental reason of grain shortage. Russia even had to purchase grain for own needs.

In "The Soviet Story” film, it is suggested that from 1937 to 1941 in the USSR, 11 million people were repressed. What can you say about these figures? Where did they come from?

Video part 30

I believe such calculations came from the book “The Gulag Archipelago” by Solzhenitsyn. In the book these figures were concocted, but the West welcomed such findings. I even saw a figure of 40 million. But to my knowledge, there are credible sources with numbers of prisoners, convicted and executed. According to those sources, in the period not between 1937 and 1941 but rather from 1926 (or even before) to 1953, for a period of 20 or 30 years, it was something above a million altogether6.

So the real number is within the pale of permissibility. In one of those years, say, 1947, the number of those convicted was 10 times smaller than in Russia today. So those figures are grossly exaggerated and fabricated to produce the desired image. In fact, there was nothing like that.

Also, those figures are commented as “in the Stalin era” or “by Stalin”. Most of those repressed were punished for good reasons: there were episodes of sabotage, terrorist attacks, mostly sabotage and staging of coups. And, for example, Bukharin was prosecuted three times, and it is only the third time that he was sentenced to death; he had a public trial and foreign journalists were admitted. Anyone could attend and see for himself the evidence and testimonies in order to evaluate whether there was any fabrication. It was all open.

How can you put all blame on Stalin? Well, I don’t know… What important is, those who killed many innocent people were executed later for what they had done, they were found guilty and convicted. We may thank Stalin for this and Stalin even resisted repressions. There were outstanding persons like Khrushchev he was trying not only to meet but even to exceed expectations and came up with his own execution limits, and his eagerness had to be curbed. But for a long time he would not calm down trying to exceed the projected number of executions of so-called “enemies of the people”.

And then he claimed himself to be the nation's savior. So, the history is, of course, very much slanted, but now everything will turn the other way, I think. We are going to learn a lot of interesting things, we are already learning.

This turn is caused by the fact that Russia has started getting off the hook and returning its independence.

You are saying that Russia is becoming independent and that the West is afraid of Russia. But what can Russia counter the West with?

Video part 31

Counter the West… First of all, if it becomes independent, it will control its own economy and manage its own money the way it wants. It means, the West is going to lose huge money and resources Russia still renders to the West as a tribute. This money will become available for own needs of Russia. Russia will be able to improve its standard of living, invest this money in domestic economy, agriculture, innovative technology, defense and regain a status of a great power.

If a country becomes a great power, it takes the place of another power—and the other power grows weaker. If it gets weaker, then the subordinate countries would have to look for another patron, an alternative. Besides, if Russia becomes a great power, it will be able to meet the needs of some countries, previously unfulfilled; it may completely rearrange the world order and change everything.

Still, apart from Russia there are China and India that develop very fast. They can be competitors as well, cannot they?

Video part 32

India has big potential in terms of huge population combined with very low level of consumption and living standards. But India strongly depends on external resources, it is not self-sufficient. Neither is China. But Russia is self-sufficient. Russia is self-sufficient economically and also generates ideology that is not nationally limited but sends message to the rest of the world and offers a path to follow, while China looks only inwards.

This country, like most other countries, is self-centered. Russia is not. Russia, so to say, is the katechon7 - "the one who withholds". This country is capable of forming a message of global importance. Therefore it is the enemy number one, and has always been, for centuries, and will probably remain, perhaps, forever.

In the Baltic States in 1939, when Hitler’s invasion was imminent, the political landscape dramatically changed. What kind of change was that? How is it related to the attitude to German occupation?

Video part 33

When Germany gained power, when its power skyrocketed after Hitler took office, especially in the late 1930s, most of the European countries agreed to follow the strong leader, Germany. It was supported by the Entente because strong Germany with many allies and sufficient power capable of attacking the USSR was needed.

The Baltic States joined the pro-German mainstream too. Part of their elite would be happy to become Germany's protectorate; they would not oppose it at all. However, when the war broke out at the end of 1930s, such ideas became irrelevant as they could hardly survive. Trade relations with Europe, with England were lost, we could not trade with them anymore—but that was our main trade partner. Neither could we trade with other countries because any sea transport could be taken down during the war.

So Latvia was isolated as it could not trade with the West anymore and it had not learnt how to trade with the East. It lacked resources and had no markets to sell its products. So it had to turn to Russia and start negotiations for trade preferences. Russia agreed to trade and to provide Latvia with the necessary resources requiring in return permission to move Russian forces to Latvia so that Russian borders would be protected in case of war.

That became the basis for further cooperation. Everything would have remained unchanged, but the war went on, and the measures taken were not sufficient anymore for Russia in view of the new circumstances. So, the security requirements were not sufficient, moreover they were not fulfilled: if Latvia agreed not to participate in any anti-Russian alliances, it had to be complied with.

But Latvia searched for an alternative and thus violated the agreement8. Then, it was Russia that had to present an ultimatum. On the other hand, it was the time, from 1939 and even before, when another part of the elite was growing which was friendly to Russia. It kept growing and by 1940 it became quite considerable. And then the pro-Germans found themselves in minority while most of the general public and intellectuals were indifferent.

But since the country was in crisis, it was interested in security and normal, sustainable living. Russia was able to provide it. That is why everything what happened in 1940 was not at all extraordinary. Ulmanis9 just compared all the options and concluded that an alliance with Russia would be the most feasible solution. And he did so. This decision was not opposed by the army or the people, so most of the people generally accepted it.

And what was the situation of the working class, the left-wing parties and organizations in Latvia?

Video part 34

Left-wing parties which means the communist party, it was banned. Therefore, all moves toward Russia were suppressed. There were transfuges who wanted to live in Russia, quite a lot of them from all over Europe including Latvia. It happened that the dictatorship stimulated economic growth to some extent through strengthening the role of the government. But the role of the left-wing parties represented by the communist party… it was marginalized and was insignificant.

And, since any alternatives were suppressed and there were no other economic solutions, Russia became somewhat popular. Besides, it was only 20 years since the Russian Empire time, and Latvians could not remember anything bad about being a part of the Empire.

What kind of danger did the Generalplan Ost present to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania? Do present-day people in the Baltic States know anything about that?

Video part 35

Our people have a vague idea about that. Although, because nobody have seen the original Generalplan Ost and there are only references, letters, reports and suggestions around it, all that nevertheless gives some idea about the Plan as it evolved according to the actual circumstances and needs. Generally, it was planned to Teutonize some part of the population and some part was to be resettled to other territories to “grade up the breed” there.

Deprivation of education and dissipation of national culture would have resulted in disappearance of Latvians as a nation, as educated people. They were supposed to become either Germans or assimilate with other ethnic groups. That would’ve been the fate of Latvia and Latvian population if Hitler had won the war.

Please tell us how American secret services supported Nazi groups in Ukraine and Eastern Europe.

Video part 36

After the World War II the entire intelligence network of Germany became at the disposal of the winners. It was of no interest to Russia as it was not planning to dominate the world, but for the USA it was a perfect fit. They could not lose such an opportunity, such an asset as well established secret service with wealth of experience and agent network.

They took over the intelligence service. Besides, they used former SS legionaries, including Latvian ones and Ukrainian ones, especially those who had shown their worth in the wartime atrocities. Normally, they would have surely been severely punished, typically convicted to death, so they were very obedient and agreed to any dirty job under the threat to be extradited to the USSR.

That was how they became a perfect tool of the USA foreign policy. An organization was established for them. Later it moved to the USA and London and acted in the best interest of the masters. For example, “Daugavas vanagi” - “The Daugava Hawks” was an organization that embraced the worst SS thugs. It is still active. Most likely there is no one of those old members left in it today, but their followers are active. It is nothing but a tool of Western foreign policy.

Does that mean that the CIA contributed to the revival of the European fascism today?

Video part 37

European fascism is a kind of a generalized term. For example, in Norway, I cannot see any fascism there. Well, maybe Breivik, but he was prosecuted, he is not acceptable to the government. In Latvia, fascism reveals itself as nationalism. Of course, it was entirely consolidated by the West. This means, without support of the West and guidance of external forces and the government, it would have never gained such an extent.

Who among professional historians and social scientists today opposes the revival of Nazism? Are there such people?

Video part 38

In the West ― well, I have a vague idea about that, because such things are lost in the information noise. The lies, the pseudo-historians who promote pro-Western concepts receive support. They get grants to finance their work and books, the books are promoted and get media coverage and become known among people. As for those opinions, analyses and historians that have a different point of view than the pro-governmental ones, they have no chance to get through the information noise.

They remain unnoticed, hardly known to anyone. Their only chance is that someone can come across their publications on the internet or through some contacts where they could get in touch and discuss something. But usually, alternative historians can never advance like the “superstars” who support the government line.

What will be the consequences to Europe and the world if communism is equated to fascism?

Video part 39

Well, if fascism is equaled to communism then the consequences of the World War II and its atrocities will be equally attributed to the Soviet Union and Germany, and then the West will be able to demand compensations from Russia.

This is the actual background behind the demonization of the USSR and the attempts to color the USSR the same as Germany ― to request to pay the bill and ensure legitimacy of such a claim. And then, consequently, freeze accounts and so on…, confiscate assets and start a war of economic sanctions. Well, it is a certain kind of war anyway.

In that case, the West needs legitimacy so that their claims would be supported by as many countries as possible. Of course, their satellites do that automatically as soon as they are told to. But if those are not enough, if in the other coalition there are many countries as well, then the demand does not appear legitimate and has no sense. So this information warfare with demonization, films and conferences, decisions and resolutions is a way to promote the desired outcome, to obtain the required legitimacy.

Do you think that the Western society including the people in the Baltic States should be interested in confronting such developments? I mean the attempts to equate communism with fascism.

Video part 40

There is no such interest among the general public, they do not even understand such ideas and have no experience with them. All these concepts are imposed with the appropriate background for the specific purposes. People have nothing to do with it. When a man in the street expresses an opinion it has no real meaning, connection with reality, it is just an induced image. And for the West, those images are important. Common people have no interest to oppose such developments; they do not care about that.
